George Jameson Hall Elevator Modernization by Architectural Resources

Design Brief

Project Location: Ithaca, NY

A mid-rise dormitory for freshmen students at Cornell University, George Jameson Hall had a short construction duration available while school was not in session to remove the elevators from service for modernization. A|r collaborated with Cornell University and proposed a revised project schedule with expedited design schedule and stringent construction duration to fit within Cornell’s academic calendar. Modernization included bringing the elevators into conformance with current ADA and building codes. A|r’s design included the addition of a new elevator machine room roof hatch to enable elevator equipment to be craned in, helping to reduce the overall construction duration and provide a sensible solution for future replacements and repairs.
